Protecting kids from lethal liquid nicotine

Illinois Senate fails to pass ban on crib bumper pads

This spring, health and safety groups supported legislation to ban the sale of crib bumper pads in Illinois due to the risk of suffocation.  The bill, HB 5348, passed the House and the Senate Public Health Committee.  But Friday night, at the 11th hour, the Senate failed to support the bill.  The bill is on postponed consideration and may be considered again in the fall.               HB 5348 was supported by a wide range of Illinois organizations ... Illinois Senate to address crib bumper pad ban

This week a statewide ban on crib bumper pads will head to the Illinois Senate floor. HB 5348, the Illinois crib bumper pad ban, would ban the sale of crib bumpers. The effective date is January 2016, giving manufacturers and retailers plenty of time to comply.Still manufacturers are dragging their feet. Support the Illinois Crib Bumper Pad Ban

Update: HR 5348(McAsey-Pihos) passed the Illinois House Consumer Protection Committee on 3/25 by a vote of 9-5.  Illinois residents can call their House of Representatives member and urge support.  Representative McAsey proposed a bill, HB5348, to ban bumper pads in Illinois earlier this winter. Every 30 minutes a child is treated in the ER for a TV injury

The dangers of TV and furniture tip-overs are on the rise, especially as it is becoming more common to own one or more television sets per household. On average, 1 child in the United States receives emergency treatment for a TV-related injury every 30 minutes, while 1 child dies every 2 weeks due to these injuries. Update on crib bumper pad action in Maryland and Illinois

First the good news… Maryland’s legislative session ended with no further action on SB 618 which was an attempt to stop the ban on the sale of crib bumper pads which is to go into effect in June.  With that, the ban is all set to be enacted, starting on June 21, 2013.  You can find more information on the ban and its implementation at the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene site. Here in Illinois, HB 3052 which passed a House committee ...
