This KID program is designed to promote the development of safe products by integrating children’s product safety, standards, and testing practices into the engineering curriculum. For a broad description of the program, check out the TEST brochure.
KID’s TEST provides important background materials and educational opportunities on safety for tomorrow’s designers and engineers of children’s products. TEST gives student engineers and designers the tools they need to integrate safety into any product they design and apply appropriate testing practices and standards to these designs. TEST will help manufacturers and testing laboratories find qualified students already familiar with standards and testing. Examples of interactive student projects ideas show the range of the TEST program.
Previous student designed product examples can be found here.
The TEST curriculum and materials are now public through the Online Ethics Center for Engineering and Science (OEC). Check out how KID promotes designing for safety and safety testing in future engineers here. Please share this rich resource with the engineers, designers, and educators in your life to help promote safer children’s product designs.
TEST is funded in part through a grant from Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL). UL also provides technical support in the development of the program.
Children’s safety is KID’s highest priority. For more information related to product design safety, please look at TEST’s safety resources sheet. Check out our safety highlights for future engineers for a brief view of TEST content.
