Health Care Providers Outreach Program (HCPOP)-launched in January 2003
The Health Care Providers Outreach Program strove to educate a large and
diverse body of parents and caregivers about unsafe and recalled
childrens products through their health care providers. The program
targeted pediatric and OB/GYN clinics, as well as prenatal and parenting classes
to make them a valuable resource on unsafe and recalled childrens
products.
The Health Care Providers program capitalized on the regular health visits that
take place during the first two years of a childs life, as well as
parents belief that doctors offices are one of the best sources to
get information on product safety. It has been proven that, when receiving
information from a trusted source, parents are more likely to take action to
create a safe environment for their children.
The program provided health care providers with multiple ways to deliver this
important life-saving information. Posters and brochures displayed in waiting
and exam rooms offered parents resources to find out about recalled products.
Also, talking points and fliers available for health care workers discussed ways
to address unsafe products with patients. Additionally, free training sessions, now available
through Safe from the Start
can be scheduled for staff, patients, or parents groups.
