What Can You Do?

The Who, What, Where, When, and How of SFTS
  • What: Safe from the Start Program!

  • Why: Recalled products are products that have been proven to be dangerous or malfunctioned or failed often causing injuries or killing a child. Since manufacturers do not like to highlight these failures it is often hard for parents and caregivers to find out if they are using a recalled product. This is especially pertinent since children’s products are recalled as often as twice a week.

  • Who: Talk to anyone who has or is expecting children, caregivers, health care professionals and organizations that work with families. It is especially important to reach expecting parents since often they are buying and receiving the most products for their infants and children.

  • When: Mention recalled products as often as you can. Parents and caregivers are continually buying new products, or receiving hand me down products for their children. Products are also continually being recalled. A constant reminder will encourage and remind parents to keep up with which products are unsafe.

  • How: Dowload, order and distribute KID materials to use to talk about children's product safety. By signing up your child care facility or family-oriented organization, KID will provide your facility with posters and brochures about the importance of product safety, and ways for parents to check if their products are safe. Making this information available provides an invaluable service to parents and caregivers helping them to create a safe environment for children and prevent needless injuries and accidents. In addition to the posters and brochures Kids In Danger will provide hot sheets for you to learn more about unsafe and recalled products.
