CPSC approves new mandatory standard for strollers, but delays effective date

Since the adoption of Danny’s Law in 2008, CPSC has developed and adopted 12 mandatory standards for infant and toddler durable products.  The most recent is the Carriage and Stroller standard.  The commission voted unanimously on Tuesday to adopt this standard. As required, this standard starts with the ASTM International voluntary standard.  In this instance, CPSC added a requirement to address head entrapment under adjustable grab bars.  ... Bobby’s story: a warning about recalled Graco Strollers

Bobby's grandmother recently shared his story on our Family Voices website. Bobby Dean died in 2007 when he was trapped between the seat and food tray of a Graco stroller. Graco finally recalled this product in 2010, but did not mention Bobby's death, only reporting on four earlier deaths and other injuries between 2003 and 2005. Stroller recalled for fall hazard, also may pose strangulation hazard

Maclaren posts update on their stroller hinge recall

Another death in recalled Graco stroller

A sad story in this week's news -- a young baby in Pennsylvania was strangled in a recalled stroller while he slept at a family gathering.  The baby was placed to sleep in the Graco Quattro Stroller.  At some point his body moved down and out between the seat and the tray, but his head was caught, strangling him. Graco and CPSC recall 2 million strollers for risk of strangulation

Today CPSC and Graco announced the recall of 2 million Quattro and Metrolite strollers sold between 2000 and 2007. Babies can slip between the seat and stroller tray -- trapping their head and leading to strangulation. At least four babies died this way between 2003 and 2005.If you have one of these strollers (the list of model numbers is long!), stop using it until you can get the repair kit from the company.We have many questions about this recall. ... Maclaren Stroller Recall: Update

On Monday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall of 1 million Maclaren strollers sold in the last decade. The recall includes all single and double umbrella strollers, which pose a risk of fingertip laceration and amputation for children. Bugaboo strollers recalled — bad brakes

Bugaboo has recalled almost 23,000 $500+ Bee strollers because the brakes can fail, causing the stroller to roll on inclines and possibly injure the occupant or others. With 121 reports of failure, there are no reported injuries.
