#FamilyVoicesFriday: Ethan’s Story

Ethan was an energetic and curious baby who loved to explore his environment. His parents would place him in the Baby Trend Home and Roam portable crib so that he could watch and learn from everyone around him. Sadly, this week marks the 16th anniversary of Ethan’s death from this product. One day, as Ethan tried to pull himself up, the portable crib rail collapsed and strangled him. He was eight months old. This portable crib was a hand-me-down, ... Read more

Sleep Safe This Father’s Day Weekend

KID knows that dads play a crucial role in keeping kids safe, healthy and happy. In fact, dads today spend triple the amount of time caring for their children as dads did 50 years ago. Much of infant safety research and advice focuses on mom’s behavior, but it is important that dads also get information on how to protect their kids. Sleep related infant deaths such as Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) are the leading cause of preventable ... Read more

#FamilyVoicesFriday: Jared’s Story

On April 25, 1997, Jared was killed when the Evenflo Happy Camper portable crib he was in collapsed. Just 8 months old, Jared was a happy and spirited baby who wowed everyone he met with his beautiful blue eyes. The portable crib that killed Jared, which featured rotating center hinges on the top rails, should have been recalled much earlier. Jared was the 11th baby killed in this type of crib when he became trapped in the V-shape of the collapsed ... Read more

Honoring Danny’s memory

On December 31, Danny Keysar would have turned 19. However, a collapsing portable crib tragically took his life before he even reached two. In the years since his death, KID, founded by Danny’s parents, has worked to further his legacy and ensure that other children do not fall prey to a flawed system, which too often allows poorly designed and inadequately tested products to reach the market. The work we have done to change this system has only ... Read more

Danny’s 18th Birthday

This Wednesday, on the last day of 2014, Danny Keysar would be turning 18.  A young adult, planning his next steps to college to fulfill the potential all parents see in their children.  But Danny isn’t here – he died before his second birthday in a poorly designed, inadequately tested, recalled portable crib.  His parents founded KID as Danny’s legacy to keep other children safe. KID’s work is done to honor the memory of Danny and other ...
