2020 ICPHSO Ross Koeser Achievement Award

On Thursday, February 20, 2020, KID Executive Director Nancy Cowles was presented with the prestigious Ross Koeser Achievement Award by the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO). Nancy was praised for her outstanding work with ICPHSO over many years. The Award is given annually in honor of ICPHSO’s founding member and first Executive Director, Ross Koeser. The recipient of the award is an ICPHSO member recognized for their significant contributions to the organization.

2018 ASTM International Margaret Dana Award

KID Executive Director Nancy Cowles was honored by ASTM International with the prestigious Margaret Dana Award on May 9, 2019. The award, established in 1979, is presented to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of voluntary standards for consumer products.

2014 Community Advocate Hope and Courage Award

KID founders Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar were honored by Lurie Children’s Hospital with this inaugural award because they “embody the values of Hope and Courage as well, and their efforts are building stronger communities and safer, healthier environments for children.”

2013 Children’s Empowerment Award

KID Executive Director Nancy Cowles received this award for “outstanding commitment & dedication to the children of our community” by Dr. Sarah Weber of Total Balance Chiropractic during Chicago Kid’s Day.

2011 CPSC Chairman’s Circle of Commendation Award

KID Executive Director Nancy Cowles was one of the first recipients of this award given by CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum to “identify and honor people and organizations who have contributed in an important way to the benefit of consumers by directly and significantly reducing deaths, preventing injuries, and improving product safety.”

2010 Civil Justice Foundation Community Champion Award

A little more than 10 years after Linda and Boaz won this award for the founding of KID, the Civil Justice Foundation presented their 2010 Community Champion Award to KID executive director Nancy Cowles in recognition of the enormous strides KID has made in the past 10 years. In addition, CJF awarded KID their “10 Years of Progress Award”. CJF first funded KID’s outreach programs in 2000.

Underwriters Laboratories Recognition

The plaque reads, “Presented to Linda Ginzel, Ph.D Kids in Danger – In recognition of your outstanding and unwavering commitment to enhancing public safety by improving children’s product safety. August 23, 2005 – Joseph Mockus, General Manager; Gus Schaefer, Office of Public Safety – Underwriters Laboratories Inc.”

2005 Raising a Ruckus Activist Award

Working Mother magazine selected Linda Ginzel for their “Raising A Ruckus” activist Award.

2004 Semifinalist Volvo for Life Award

Volvo Cars of North America selected Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar as one of the top 100 semifinalists in the Volvo for Life Awards. They were nominated for the care, conscience and character they have shown toward their community, and for their willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty to help others in need.

2003 Parenting Leaders

Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar were honored as Parenting Leaders in the March 2003 issue of Parenting Magazine for their work in founding KID.

2000 President’s Service Award

Former President Bill Clinton awarded Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar with the nation’s highest honor for volunteer service. This award is the most prestigious national recognition given for volunteer service directed at solving the country’s critical social problems. The White House saluted their important work on behalf of Kids In Danger in the area of national public safety.

1999 Civil Justice Foundation Community Champion Award

The Civil Justice Foundation honored Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar as exceptional consumer activists. As cofounders of Kids In Danger, they received the Community Champion Award for demonstrating a compassion and commitment to advocacy in performing outstanding work on behalf of injured consumers.

1998 Chicagoans of the Year

Selected from a list of nominees suggested by readers and community leaders, Chicago Magazine named Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar “Chicagoans of the Year”, along with Chicago Cubs baseball player Sammy Sosa and blues singer Koko Taylor. They were honored both for their civic contributions and for their inspiring demonstration of making an impact through their work with Kids In Danger.

1998 Allstate Safety Leadership Award

The Allstate Insurance Company’s highest public honor was awarded to Kids In Danger as an exemplary model of safety leadership in the Illinois region.
